And I enjoyed the scenes where everyone was together, the group banter was great. Also, the fact that he’s been secretly obsessed with Persy for eight years was such a pleasant surprise (unrequited love is one of my least favorite tropes). A couple of others for appearance and backup.” This is the kind of nonchalance/dry humor I crack up at, and Cillian delivered it in spades (most of the time). Like Cillian saying, ”What I need is siring heirs. There were actually some funny things I laughed out loud at too. ![]() ![]() And ugh, I am so soft for heroines who are good with children/animals (it’s because I believe they have good intuition when it comes to people). She never caved where it mattered most, and I loved every scene where she stood up to Cillian. But the girl we got actually had the kind of backbone I never anticipated. From what we saw in The Hunter, I really thought she wasn’t going to be anything more than a naïve, timid girl. I’ll admit I underestimated Persy on the day of the blurb/cover reveal. On the man every media outlet in America referred to as The Villain. On a doomed desire, a stupid crush, an unrequited lover. ![]() In the end, I wasted the Cloud Wish in one, reckless moment. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And, more important, after her adventures in the woods, Snow White might find sitting on a throne as dull as lying in a glass coffin. Snow White, after years in a sleeping spell, might not be affected by the enchantment placed on Sleeping Beauty. ![]() The story combines two fairy tales, and it contains two startling ideas. Even the page numbers have gold filigree. Almost every page is decorated with gold leaf. This new collaboration is a spectacular art object. Other artists illustrated the books in the U.S., quite beautifully, but the British editions are objects of envy for many fans. The illustrations in Fortunately, the Milk are a marvel of draftsmanship, and Coraline and The Graveyard Book are considered classics. The two men have collaborated on a number of books published in the U.K., to great success. Is it fair to expect a masterpiece when Gaiman and Riddell work together? Probably. ![]() ![]() ![]() The best moment comes in Issue 7, where a Foreign Legionnaire is dragged into Korea and laments having to leave his “nice clean little war” in Vietnam to join the Korean police action. troops had little to no respect for Koreans, even the civilians they were allegedly there to save.) (This is, unfortunately, historically accurate: U.S. I was expecting it - I don’t think there’s a vintage war comic in existence without racial slurs - but two sentences? Really? It took two sentences for them to start spouting racial slurs. On a totally unrelated note, remember when Republicans didn’t want to let in refugees from certain countries in case there were terrorists among them? It’s almost like that entire line of reasoning is racist garbage!Īs you may imagine, racism is rampant throughout this series. ![]() It was official policy for them to shoot indiscriminately at all refugees, just in case Northern infiltrators were hiding in their midst. The writers couldn’t have known this, but the Americans were just as murderous as their enemies. ![]() I feel like I just glimpsed the Mirror Universe version of M*A*S*H. ![]() ![]() ![]() In this, Blue’s seventh outing, it’s not just the sturdy protagonist that seems to be wilting. His sister, Ming, had similar features, slightly softened by her long raven hair and bright red, over-the-ear headphones. ![]() ![]() With short-cropped black hair, cheekbones sharp enough to cut glass, and a terse mouth that never smiled, he wasn’t winning any friendly neighbor awards. Zhi stared at me, his intensity at nuclear level. Out of nowhere, a man and a woman appeared on either side of me. As Sabrina pulled out her phone for another round of photos, Sin shot me a pained look.Ĭhuckling, I poured her a coke and slid it into her hand as I stepped out from behind the bar, whiskey cradled in the crook of my elbow. When I pushed through the saloon doors, Sabrina was animatedly describing her victory at the rabbit breed show to Sin and Riley, who’d joined her at the bar. The guys were going to clean me out, sheesh. In dry storage, I grabbed a bottle of whiskey. Squashing my guilt, I hastened into the kitchen and high-fived Ramsey, the cook, on my way by. “Sorry, Sabrina, I need to get back at it.” Oh, now he was asking my permission? Suppressing an eye roll, I waved in acknowledgment, then composed my face into an expression of disappointment. “Hey Tori!” Aaron called from across the pub, his voice rising above the loud rumble of conversations. ![]() ![]() Many of them were marched to prisons and died along the way, while others were quickly burned at the stake. 53 individuals were found guilty of practicing witchcraft.
